Lol, now that you mention it... that was not my intention, I've never heard of that meme before, but it sure looks like it! xD

Also, me and my poppa were SUPPOSED to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 3 yesterday... but the DVD was glitched so we ended up not watching it. Boohoo.

And, for no reason at all, I remembered Captain Skurvy. I mean c'mon, he's a pirate. And he likes singing. That's prime parody material right there!

Kaptain Skurvy speedpaint. Even though I drew the games' version of DK Isle and Crocodile Isle, for the simple fact that I like that rendition much better. It's a lot of explaining really...

Hey Chibisai, not to be rude, but most of your artworks don't really seem DKC related. I know they are original characters which you've created for your extension of the DKC universe, but really they probably belong in the Non-DKC related artwork topic.

Also, and this is again not meant to be rude; I think maybe you could stand to spend a bit more time refining your artworks before posting them here. Thanks for being a contributing member of the community, but just keep in mind the 'quality over quantity' motto.

Well, they're not really friends, K. Rool just didn't really pay attention to which people may comment to his posts. That or he just friends them to see what they're up to... you'll never really know what those monkeys are up to...


I've tried using textures. Quite like the outcome.

I'm just working on doing random photoshoped images with the Kongs. Here is Kiddy on Rambi. I'm going to do Dixie on Expresso, next.

I think I should work on perfecting the drop shadows, a bit... it doesn't look 100% right.
Anyway, I was working a bit more and here is Dixie on Winky.


I am going to work a bit more on Dixie riding Expresso. I need to perfect the shadow. I'm also going to rework Kiddy on Rambi. Shouldn't take long, so keep checking back!

I'm working on making my own Kong. I'm not exactly sure why, but just for fun, I guess.

I wanted to make a female Kong that wasn't girly. I want her to be like a tomboy.

I still need to work on her head and do some fine-tuning on the rest of her body. I still need to figure out how to colour her and put textures on her. But this is just a very early preview.

Phyre, I noticed that all your drop shadows only affect the Kongs and not the animals.

Ideally, I just wanted to have the drop shadow on the characters themselves and not the backgrounds at all... I can't figure out how to do that, other than merge them and erase the shadow... I tried to match the edited Kong's shadow to the buddy's (or other Kong's) shadows.... I think I'll have to go back and merge and erase...

Much better! Looking at it though, it seems like Dixie is a little big next to DK. Could she be shrunk a bit?

She's actually the same size as Diddy. This was originally from DK holding Diddy, and I took the Dixie from Diddy holding her. I also couldn't make her smaller unless I redid the whole thing. I didn't save it as a PSD, for some reason. The other ones still have all the layers, but not that one.

Alas, I thought I'd share some of my art, seeing as it's been quite a while since I last did~.

Captain Skurvy is the best. I thought, what would he look like if he appeared in a game?

So I drew this, haha. In the style of Donkey Kong: King of Swing's promo art.

Oh, and I drew the Kremling Krew(s). Well.. most of 'em.

I'm pretty happy with this drawing, personally, though I'll add more in the future.

Oh, not sure, but did I share this movie poster mock-up already?

Ehehe. K. Rool and DK were rendered in Sculptris. Fur, drool, and other effects were later added in Photoshop. The voice actors at the top are those from the TV show.

Holy moly, those are excellent! I LOOOOOVE the movie poster - very dark and sinister, full of tension... and magnificent job blending the 3D/PS art. Really well done. The fake credits are a nice touch, and for some reason I am particularly loving the 'DK' text. Who are 'Rusted Root' and 'Illumination Studios', by the way?

The other drawings are really good, too. So much love for your style. Welcome back!

I really enjoy your style and how you choose to have it reflect the TV series more so than the game series. A lot of people hated the show but I thought it was rather clever at times.

Ahaha, thank you! 8D Rusted Root is my favourite band and Illumination Studios made films such as Despicable Me and The Lorax. Haven't seen the latter, but since they made/are making a few movies based on existing works, I thought it'd make sense. (I'd sooner want to see Pixar, Blue Sky or Dreamworks do it, but yeah)

I've begun to look like a weeaboo lately. The Japanese words at the top is actually how you write Donkey Kong in Japanese. I drew this while listening to the opening and ending themes of the cartoon in Japanese. Baaa-na-na! Kensotyu-doo-dan-sai-tho! ...BAAA-NA-NA! ...I don't know if that made sense.

I'm just doing the colouring.

I liked Tanya's initial sketch so much that I decided to work on this bigger, neater, coloured/shaded version... I'm using an app called SketchBook Mobile to 'finger paint' this on my phone — a great way to unwind after a hard day of Atlas authoring.

Obviously, it's still pretty rough around the edges, and there's lots to be done before it's a finished piece, but I wanted to share what I've done so far.

I've invited Tanya to the forum, as she's quite a DKC fan... hopefully she'll be sharing art here herself sometime soon.
